According to the new rules of the Latvian Cabinet of Ministers No.1523 and No.1462, children aged from 1,5 years to the beginning of primary education can apply for state subsidies (co-financing) of the municipality and of the State.
Clause No.8 of the rules of Cabinet of Ministers No.1523 states that the municipality co-financing and the clause 13 of the rules of Cabinet of Ministers No.1462 states that the State co-financement is not allocated for the days when the child has been absent from school for an unjustified reason. In this case the co-financement will be calculated proportionally to the days child has attended the school.
A justified reason is:
1) child’s absence due to the illness, that is approved by a certificate from the family doctor;
2) child’s absence if the child’s parents have informed the school by written notification before the planned absence*.
* if the child’s parents have informed the school by written notification, they must keep in mind that in this case the absences justified like this should not exceed two months (44 working days) during a calendar year (if it exceeds two months, the absence is un-justified).
According to the rules No.1462 of the Cabinet of Ministers the State co-financing is offered if the child is registered for admission in a pre-school educational institution of the municipality of the child’s declared residence but he doesn’t study there.
